Cloud telephony company Knowlarity Communications has acquihired Delhi-based customer engagement platform Smartwards for an undisclosed amount.
Shantanu Mathur, founder of Smartwards will now head the India operations of Knowlarity. He earlier worked with FashionAndYou in 2012 and then joined Smile Group’s India incubator as the managing director.
Smartwards started operations in 2013 with a team of six and the company’s proprietary technology enables SMBs to identify, reward, engage customers, in-store and out-of-store. With presence in over 150 locations across 8 cities, Smartwards provided engagement solutions to local businesses, including restaurants, cafes, cinemas, salons and retail outlets.
In his new role as Country Head, Shantanu Mathur said,
“Our journey in building a strong B2B2C product has been quite fascinating. We realized early, that to make a successful product for the Indian customer, one has to solve the problem in-depth and at-scale. However, the SME is not an easy market to crack in India and thus we were looking to move to a larger platform. With Knowlarity, we get the freedom and agility of a start up in a well-established organization,” said Mathur.
Mathur will look at onboarding large enterprise clients and head a team of 300 at the Mayfield and Sequoia-backed company(Knowlarity).
“We are focused now on large enterprise clients and have pulled back from serving small and medium businesses. We are excited about building artificial intelligence into products and voice as a segment and hybrid cloud telephony on premise,” said Ambarish Gupta, founder of Knowlarity.
Knowlarity was founded by Gupta in 2009 to solve the pain points of managing calls and SMSes for companies, without getting into the hassles of a full-fledged call center or having to be bound to one phone.In the past 7 years, Knowlarity has grown into a 450 employee company with more than 15,000 customers across 65 countries.
In cloud telephony, the company competes with Exotel, which has so far acquired two companies in the voice-based feedback and voice-based social media segments.
